COMFORT DOGS

CANINE-ASSISTED CRISIS RESPONSE

CRITICAL INCIDENT CRISIS RESPONSE

What is a Comfort Dog?

A Comfort Dog is a newer subset of the traditional Therapy Dog.  It's a working dog that, as the name implies, provides comfort to individuals experiencing a traumatic event, such as the loss of a loved one, natural disasters or man-made crisis events. They are apart of a certified crisis response team.

Comfort Dogs are not Service Dogs or Emotional Support Animals.  Comfort Dogs are highly trained and certified with Animal-Assisted Support Programs (AASP) that provide comfort to people other than their owner/handler

Whereas both Service Dogs (highly trained) and Emotional Support Animals (no training required) provide service or support for their owner/handler.

Our Canine-Assisted Crisis Response & Canine-Assisted Critical Incident Stress Management teams accelerate the healing process for individuals, first responders, and entire communities by bridging the gap between trauma and recovery.

Our highly trained and certified teams operate in complex and often unpredictable environments that surround traumatic and crisis events.

We know isolation is a common coping mechanism following trauma. That's why we leverage the power of the human-canine bond: research strongly supports the effectiveness of canine-assisted interventions in mitigating the impact of isolation and facilitating recovery.

The unique advantage of working with our canine partners is that we can rapidly establish a therapeutic rapport and provide an immediate sense of safety to individuals in crisis.

Our canines' calming presence fosters trust, enabling people to open up and share their experiences. This emotional regulation and increased social connection create an optimal environment for crisis intervention specialists to provide essential psychological first aid.

By combining the therapeutic benefits of the human-canine bond with proven crisis intervention strategies, we help build resilience and promote lasting healing.
